Broadband Connection Lost

I have recently connected a USB broadband connection to
me Win XP setup. When browsing intially everything is
fine, but after a short time I can no longer browse even
though the connection manager still says that the modem
is working and connected, I then have to disconnect and
redial.
The time before this happens has varied between 5 and 20
mins.
I have tried manually setting up a new connection, have
turned off the dial a connection box, and removed all
hang up after a certin time check boxes. Any ideas ???
