DSL uses PPPoE and Windows Vista can easily connect to DSL using its built
in PPPoE, the problem is most likely that it hasn't been set up with the
user name and password needed. Most DSL providers will include a small
program that will install the user name and password for you, but most times
this software isn't compatible with Vista.

Try this;

In Network and Sharing Center click "Set up a connection or network"

Choose "Connect to the Internet"

It may tell you that you are already connected to the Internet if your
dial-up is running, choose "Set up a new connection anyway" if this happens.

On the Connect to the Internet screen click Broadband (PPPoE)

On the next screen input your user name and password for your ISP (the DSL
connection, of course). Choose Remember this password and check Allow other
people . . . so that all accounts can use the connection, if this is
desired.

When you have everything set, click the Connect button and it should connect
through your DSL modem.

Vista is actually much better with networking than XP was, it handles the
connections in a more logical manner and can adjust to different network
conditions on the fly, as opposed to being locked-in, so to speak, to one
configuration, which can sometimes cause network problems when conditions
change.

Some things are moved around in the GUI though, they are in more logical
places, but, since people have become so used to XP after all these years
everyone looks for things in the same locations they were in XP, causing
confusion and frustration.
