Bug in Vista Briefcase

Posted: 04-16-2007, 10:36 AM
In addition to the generally dire re-implementation of Briefcase under Vista,
another (XP/pre-XP?) issue has (re)appeared on Vista HP.

I finally caught the briefcase out - in the (badly designed) Update dialog,
the "master" version is marked as Modified, and the briefcase copy is marked
Unmodified.

Select "Details" and one arrives at a "Resolve Conflict" dialog - BOTH files
being noted as having been modified (I have a screenshot if anyone wants it).

File synchronisation is an essential these days: either enable Sync in
non-ultimate versions of Vista or make the Briefcase usable - please!

See other postings by myself and other users for details of cumulative
Briefcase issues - including "silent" update failures.

This should not be considered as a "suggestion": it does not relate to
product development or enhancement, it's about making something do what it
should be doing in the first place properly & usably.

Julian,

Confirmed here, I see the same problem on every file! It's bizarre that this wasn't
caught by MS in testing.

Me 3, There still seems to have been no fix for briefcases almost
months after the first post.
I need to use briefcases, not sync and offline folders, as I need t
keep the files on a USB key for use on 2 laptops

I also have lots of problems with briefcase on Vista. Recently I've found out
that there is a utility called SynchToy from Microsoft. It seems much better
than briefcase. It looks like it is actually usable.

Me 5. I really hope that Microsoft fixes the bugs in Briefcase for Windows
Vista. Why include something if it doesn't work?

How frustrating!

Yeah, I got a long list of files that are listed as deleted. I keep
sync copy of important files from my C drive on a briefcase on a flas
drive and then also create a briefcase on my network drive at work an
sync the flash drive briefcase to it. That way I can work on my file
wherever I am at work without carrying my flash drive around. I go
Vista last week and just synced all my files, but Vista Briefcase no
lists about 50 files on my C drive as deleted, when they are there.
verified. THIS IS NOT SAVING ME TIME. Why is Vista so incompatibl
with everything? Why can't they upgrade an OS without screwing it up
