Camera is not found

I have a Canon IXUS II digital camera. I have downloaded the Canon's software (Solution 12.1). My computer's operating system is Windows XP. After connecting the camera to the USB port and using the Boombrowser (it was in the Canon software) to download pictures from the camera, I get a message on the computer screen: "No camera found" and therefore cannot download pictures to the computer. I also checked the Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard, which does not work. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks.
