Re: Camera and scanner wizard

Different ways to try to repair.

Here is the latest fix from Microsoft, not yet published on their FAQ page.

Go from steps I to V, although step V may not be needed.

I. Connect your camera to your computer, power it on and make sure you have
pictures on your memory card. Make sure your batteries are good or better
yet, use your AC adapter if your camera came with one.

II. Click on Start, click on Run and type the following in the textbox:
REGSVR32 SHIMGVW.DLL
and press Enter
Note that there is a space between ...32 and SHI...
This will take a few seconds to run.

III. Go to the following site:
http://www.bigblackglasses.com/staff...ds/autofix.exe

and download the autofix.exe file in one of your folder. Once done, double
click on this file. A window will open. Follow the directions on the screen.

Once done, turn off the camera and reboot.

IV. Power the camera on, wait 10-15 seconds for XP to recognize it, you
should hear some beeping sound and the window should now open giving you the
option of downloading photos from the camera.

V. You may have to set the options for this window.
Click on My Computer, your camera should be listed there under Devices with
Removable Storage. Right click on it and click on Properties. In the opening
window, click on the Autoplay tab and under Select, scroll to Pictures to
select it. Select the button Prompt me...

Here are previous fixes at the Microsoft FAQ page.

Go this site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...aq/default.asp

Fourth item from the top of the page. Two fixes are presented. One is to
edit the registry, the second one is to download Tweak UI and do the repair
with it. If you are comfortable editing the registry, go ahead.

If not, download Tweak UI.

Once you download Tweak UI file in one of your folders, double click on it
to install it.

Once this is done, click on Start and click on All Programs. Look for Power
Toys for Windows XP. Click on it and Tweak UI will be listed. Click on it to
get is started.

A window will open. Click on the + sign next to My Computer, then click on
the + sign next to Autoplay. Then, click on Types. Check the boxes for
Autoplay Drive Types and click OK.

Here is another fix.

Forget about the above fixes. Buy a USB card reader (about $15.00) and
connect it to your computer. Load your memory card in it and download your
pictures from it. A favorite solution. Just another way to do things when
Microsoft breaks down and you have to spend more money to repair what should
be easy to do.

"what would you like to do" window does not open when
digital camera is plugged into USB. It used to pop up
automatically after the camera was plugged in and then
turned on. I can access the removable disk F, and can
view the pictures, but the step by step download to
computer file process does not kick in. What the hell?

Camera and Scanner Wizard

I've tried all the fixes to get the Camera and scanner Wizard worjing again
to no avail. When I run the AutoFix I get a message that says: The AutoPlay
setting cannot be fixed. either the device is malfunctioning, or the wizard
casnnot determine the problem. The device (Zio Card Reader) is fine. I even
tried another card reader. I am enclosing the AutoFix file log. Anyone have
any ideas as to how I can fix this problem?

The fix you tried works, but not for everybody. Why it does not work for
everybody is impossible for me to say. I just don't know why. Maybe
somebody will come to the rescue.
It looks like if you want this wizard to work you may have to buy a USB card
reader (about $20.00) and use the card reader to transfer your picture from
your memory card to your hard drive.

Thanks for your reply. I'll just transfer my pictures without using the
"Wizard", the way I did before XP. I just wish I could get to the bottom
line as to why it works for some and why not for others. The fix worked for
me on my girlfriend's computer.

I still can "autoplay" on my card reader, but have lost autoplay on my cd
and dvd drives. When I ran autofix, I got that same message that "it found
problems but could not fix them." If anyone figures out what the problem
is, please let the rest of us know. Thanks.

The problem I have is that when I turn on my Canon A95 camera, I get the
option to launch word or the camera and scanner wizard and not the software
that came with the camera. I made a mistake and connected my camera without
first installing the software and now the software is not offered as an
option. Can anyone help with this issue please.
I am running XP home

Go to Control Panel and Add/Remove.
Remove the Canon software.
Reboot.
Install the Canon Software again and then connect your camera. See if this
works.
A way around is to open your Canon software, then go to File and Import to
download the pictures from the camera with this software.

Camera and Scanner Wizard
Posted: 04-25-2006, 05:30 AM
This has been working perfectly for two years, now all of a sudden The Wizard
cannot detect my camera even though the camera appears on the Drive list.
The only glitch I can think of is: I inadvertantly unplugged the USB cable on
the computer port while adding another USB cable for my cell phone nterface.
I can download photos from Camedia (Olympus camera program) with no problem.
Windows Explorer and other programs can see the Camera. Did the Wizard
just up and croak after two years? Who do I talk to for Support, Usoft, Dell
or Olympus??
