If you have room inside the case for the additional hard drive, and the
cable necessary to connect it to the motherboard, you can do this.
You'll just have to format the drive before you can store files on it.

Yes

You will not be able to boot to the third drive, since it doesn't have
an OS on it.

When adding a new HD, all that is required is that the HD be partitioned
into at least one partition, then formatted, which will put the file
system on. Only if the HD is going to be used as a boot volume would
you need to put an OS on it.

If you intend to use the new HD with Windows XP, it needs to be
formatted as FAT/FAT16/FAT32/NTFS (one of them). I prefer to use NTFS
for all my XP volumes.
