Can not create clips automatically

I have movie maker 2, Sony digital vidio camera, pentium4 processor, one gig of ram, 160 gig hard drive, firewire.

I can not break a vidio into clips and can not find any directions to follow except the button in the program its self.

There must be a trick to it.

Can you tell me what it is?
