Can not enable Direct X

I am also told by Windows that I need to download a new
driver for my nvidia video card. This message appears
when I select direct X as an option in another software
program. the software company directed me to nvidia. The
message says "can not create back page or back drop,"
something to that affect. so I picked up the desktop,
moved it to a phone line - yes there's no internet there
and downloaded the new driver. I installed the driver and
everything seemed to be better until I picked up the
desktop and moved it back to its multiple-monitor use
station.
