Having the same problem myself. Came on here hoping to find a solution. Have
you had any luck since yesterday?

Hi Richard and Jack,

I would recommend switching to Windows Live Mail. It is not buggy like
Windows Mail.

'Windows Live Mail Beta' (http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas)

If you have Norton or McAfee antivirus, uninstall it and use something
like the free Avast instead. They are incompatible with Vista. Make
sure you have all email scanning options turned off in the antivirus
program.

'Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition'

Hi Brink

I have paid good money for both Norton and Vista and, as supposedly, the
best software on the market, I expect them to do their jobs without problems.

I am only doing something very simple setting a up an email account.

I have deactivated my firewall, deleted my account and restarted and created
a new account and still have the same problem. I can only send/receive email
when I exit mail. The send button does not do anything !

Is it it possible to reinstall mail ?

Vista is fine with most AV's apart from Norton or McAfee.

You should seek a refund for Norton and use a compatible product
instead such as Avast.

For the average home user the OS is the only essential software
that it is worthwhile spending money on.

Julian, the thing is I have turned off my Norton and made a restart and the
send mail button still does not work ! How can I be sure that this has some
thing to do with AV software ?

Richard,

Norton was a great program for XP, but it is not compatible with Vista
yet no matter what Norton claims. You will have this problem until you
uninstall Norton.

I recommend that you at least try this and see:

1. Uninstall Norton.
2. Delete your current email account and create a new one.
3. Use something like the free Avast antivirus.

'Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition'

It would be better if you switch to Windows Live Mail (WLM). It is not
buggy like Windows Mail. WLM will automatically import Windows Mail
messages, accounts, and settings into it. Contacts will have to be
manually imported. (Tools, Contacts, File, Import, Address book for
current Windows User.)

'Windows Live Mail Beta' (http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas)

Shawn

If you uninstall it entirely, remove and recreate you email account in
Windows Mail ( to remove corruption by Norton) reboot and retry send...
if it then works you can be pretty sure that Norton is to blame
since you haven't changed anything else... capice?

If you still can't send... post your error message and codes here.

BTW are you sure you have nothing stuck in your outbox?

Are you sure you have "send messages immediately" enabled?
