Can you help?

Posted: 11-07-2006, 04:05 AM
I replaced my keyboard. My cable to my camera was attached to the serial
port. MY new keyboard doesn't have the same connection, so I connected my
camera to a serial port on my computer.

Now it says that it cannot find the camera.

What should I do? I can't find the cd that came with it.

It's a Concord Eye Q 4330z.

Thanks!!

not really clear on your posting.
"my camera was attached to the serial port"
then you say
"so i connected my camera to a serial port on my computer"

do you mean your keyboard had one of those y cables
that split off for the webcam?

My keyboard had a serial port on it. I guess that is what it is called. OH
WAIT!! NO!! It had a USB Port...duh!

After I damaged the keyboard, I tried to use the two USB ports that were
available ON my computer.

Does that help?

not really.
but anywhoo, maybe this can help

1) there is a serial to usb convertor cable that
you can buy at the computer store.

2) the usb's may not be enabled in the
cmos for your computer.

However there are 2 speeds for usb. your motherboard
may be a slower one if the pc is a little old. But
your kb may require the faster usb type.

The computer store people can give you a bunch
of info if you are confused. You can buy a usb board
and install on your motherboard with the faster type of usb
if your kb requires it and maybe your webcam too. There
are usb hub's too with different speeds.

hope these help.... G.L.

Good grief, I'm confused.

I was able to take pics off of my camera until my keyboard got wet.

When I replaced the keyboard with a model with no USB port attached, I was
forced to use another port.

I tried the 2 that are on the computer itself.

It now says it "can't find the digital camera".

I don't know enough about technology (can you tell) to know what to do. I
do not have the installation CD any longer.

I wonder if somehow the usb cable was damaged by the water?

yeh, the processes to get the
hardware can be tedious and not
ideally resolved with postings over
the course of many days.

and if you don't have anykind
of a windows cd, you could risk
crashing the operating system and
not way to get it functional again.

the o.s. can crash with other things
in addition to forcing windows to recognize
your cameral. it can crash with virus's, adwares,
spywares, etc....

if you don't have any windows cd's or get
someone with technical expertise to help
you there, then leave your system as is.

right now you no longer can use a camera.
but if you continue with trying to get something
that windows doesn't readily recognize installed,
you'll end up loosing your operating system too.

when you are able to get somekind of
windows setup cd either from the computer
store or from the maker of your computer,
let me (us) know, then we can proceed
with getting the camera installed.....

g.l....
