Can you Record Streaming Video?

Posted: 08-11-2003, 05:28 PM
Greetings,

1)Is it possible to record streaming video?I am aware of screen capture
programs but I mean either d/load the file or otherwise record it the same
way you might do with a TV show?
2)Can screen capture programs reproduce high quality moving images?

TIA

David

No you cant just download the file. You must use a capture tool to record
it. It is almost impossiable to record it in high quality, what ever you
see when streaming it, is what will be recorded. You also have to remember
that when you save the stream with a capture program the video will be
compressed to make it smaller.

Thanks again for reply.

Do you mean a screen capture tool?Isn't there some way of catching the
"feed" of presumably "0" and "1" 's before they hit the actual screen, say
like a video capture card might or a VCR (you don't have to have the screen
on whereas a screen capture tool apparently copies the images literally off
the screen)?

Similarly I am puzzled why you can't d/load the file/images like you can a
web page i.e. client program accesses server and somehow does so.

I have camstudio,a freeware screen capture tool, but the quality of the
captured avi is about half of the original. Are there ones that reproduce
same quality?
