cannot connect to a Windows 2003 Server

Posted: 10-25-2007, 07:44 PM
I have a new Vista Business notebook that cannot see the windows 2003 server
on the network. It DOES see all other XP machines and does get to the
internet.

I tried dynamic and static IPs on the notebook. And I have the DNS on the
notebook set to the server IP.

I can reach a server shared folder by IP i.e. \\192.168.0.250\public but
this does not seem to work to log on to the domain etc. And I cannot join the
domain as the Vista PC cannot see the server by name.

Also is there any way to search for a computer by name on the network in
Vista? I could use this search in XP to find a computer.

I would appreciate any ideas why or what is different with the Vista PC.
