A router is one solution: it can share a cable modem connection
between the computers just like Osvaldo's previous Internet Connection
Sharing setup did.

Another possibility is to install a different NIC (internal, or
external USB) on the desktop and use Internet Connection Sharing
again.

Another possibility, using a hub (switch), is to get two IP addresses
from your cable modem provider.

I recommend a router. In the long run, it's less expensive, more
reliable, and more secure than the other solutions.

Default Cannot connect two PCs to Internet

try using a router instead of a switch, you can spoof
your main computers ip address, and will be able to give
internet acces to all your LAN computers...
