cannot copy files onto local machine

Posted: 06-14-2006, 06:06 AM
I'm trying to install 32 bit vista from within windows xp, or booting up, but
I reach the same point. At 1% of copying files I get an error message
displayed that says "Setup cannot copy windows files to the local machine.
Error code [80070241]."

How can I resolve this?

I've discovered it's almost always because of a bad download. It's a shame
actually that microsoft couldn't have just made their own working download
manager in internet explorer or something instead of relying on a 3rd party.
Search this forum under general discussion for finding the answer to this
problem - "cannot copy files" etc. Someone told me the MD5 codes to verify it
was downloaded correctly in another thread.

Same problem here. At around 18% loading of Vista, I get the 80070241 error
and all stops. I suppose I'll have to downoad it again based on your
comments. Glad to see I'm not alone in this, but pity us all. Ho, ho...

An error occured while copying setup files onto your local machine.
Error code is [80070241]

I read all kinds of things about setting your RAID controller to other modes
or whatnot, but if you didn’t require extra drivers or different modes to
install XP, then you shouldn’t need anything extra to install Vista. Quite
the contraty, you should require less because Vista will come with updated
RAID drivers and all that. (Hopefully the ability to load RAID drivers from a
COMPACT DISK because floppys utterly suck)

The most likely reason for this is that you got a corrupted ISO or that your
disk burnt improperly. Luckily I have a laptop with a DVD burner in it, so I
redownloaded the ISO and burned the disk at 2x. It took about 20 minutes to
burn all three gig worth of 5384 goodness, but it was well worth it because
Vista installed smoothly afterward.
