Cannot even Ping my own machine.

Posted: 03-06-2008, 06:23 PM
I have VISTA Home Premium. I recently uninstalled Symantec Security. After
that, I could not access my home network. Now, I cannot even ping my own
machine.

Network discovery is on.
Network is set to private.
File sharing is on.
Public folder sharing is on.
Password protection is off.

I've tried with and without the personal windows firewall disabled.

Help

What IP are you using to ping your own machine which you need to use? There
is a special IP just for this purpose I don't recall it but you can probably
find it using Google or someone else reading this thread will provide it.

As JW states - not uch info - To ping a local computer : ping localhost or
ping 127.0.0.1

Also do ipconfig.

The IP address of the machine is 192.168.7.105. I know that I could ping
that address, before. I can also ping other VISTA machines on my local
network. It could also access my 2003 server, before I uninstalled Symantec.
Now it can't. However, it browses the Web just fine. Any ideas?

TonyP,
Here is something to consider. You may know that Symantec software can be
tenacious when trying to uninstall; i.e., traces often remain. To that end,
Symantec over the years has created several uninstall tools specifically for
their software.

The link below is for what Symantec is calling the "Norton Removal Tool".
The exact steps differ depending on what product is installed, but those
steps are laid out via links on that page.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039

Please post back to document whether or not that resolved your connectivity
(and ping) issues.
