Cannot fax from Access/Word2003

WinXP/MediaCentre2005.
I use the HP Jetsuite HP3100 to fax out directly.
Before the upgrade to the new system I could fax
out letters and reports directly, but now this is
not working, though all is connected as before.
However, I can fax out directly if I do so from a
simple text file.
Why does this work for a text file and not for the
ather applications?
