Cannot install Windows Vista

Posted: 06-11-2006, 03:23 PM

I have downloaded and tried to install the 32bit and 64bit versions on vista,

I have an ASUS A8N-E Motherboard with a AMD 3200 64 bit processor
I threw in a Maxtor 4D040H2 40 gig IDE hard drive and set it it to boot off
of that. It that had a Windows XP 32 bit installation on it, I have tried
upgrading the installation and I have also tried to do a clean installation
of both the 32bit and 64 bit versions.

each time I would get an error "Setup could not get information about the
disk on your computer."

Any ideas?

I just installed an 80 gig SATA II drive and made sure it had a clean ntfs
partition on it and still had the same problem. recieved the exact same error
so I am thinking it has something to do with it not getting information from
my motherboard, it finds the drive in my bios. I had disabled raid and
unplugged all my usb devices except for my keyboard and mouse. Noluck

How do you have your drives set up? Jumper settings, Setup (BIOS/CMOS)?

You need a clean NTFS partition of at least 20 (15 minimum) GB on a
7200 Rpm disk for installing Vista.
Prepare that partition (format NTFS; chkdsk), start WinXP, disable
on-access virus scanner, insert Vista DVD for installation - being
connected to the internet for updates.

Worked fine here in three cases.
