Cannot Print through network

I have a desktop running xp pro (with printer) and a
laptop running 98se. Internet and file sharing good but
the laptop wont print to the printer. updated driver
installed on both machines. i set it up so it ran through
the network (\\Sharename\Printername). still nothing.
Printer status window just gives printing error. Any
suggestions?
