Cannot set file location for Excel X for Macintosh

Hi.

I have an issue that when I try to set the file location to a directory
on a shared file on a networked Mac, the list of files on the networked
mac appears garbled. Excel then crashes out to the desktop.

The Mac running the Excel prog is a new G5 Intel based Mac running OS X
10.4.8 with Office X patched to the latest version. The Mac with the
shared folder is a standard G5 Mac running OS X 10.3.9. I need to set
the file locations to the shared document folder as more than one Mac
accesses the data.
