Cannot use System Restore function

When I attempt to restore my system to an earlier
configuration I recive the following error message:

"System Restore Application has encountered a problem and
needs to close"

Upon looking up the exact error, I found the error to be
the following:

"AppName: rstrvi.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600l.0 ModName:
srrstr.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.101 Offset: 00008f33

Not sure what all that means but maybe somebody out there
can help me. Thanks

Type 302796 in the microsoft knowledge base search
box,it will take you to the article "Troubleshooting
system restore in WindowsXP"...Good luck.
