Canon Digital camera does not install

Posted: 01-20-2004, 04:18 PM
I had the camera installed and working fine, until my system crashed.

I performed a clean installed of Win XP. Installed all the applications
again (a lot of them!) The only thing that now does not install is the
Canon S100 Digital camera.

I dowloaded the latest driver from Canon (WIA USB 3.9.1.0) but it still does
not install.

Any idea?

Eduardo

Update to this entry.

I checked in the Properties windows and the message box has this message:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous
instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

How can I resolve that? I have tried to Uninstall and Install (including
getting rid of the application and deleting the folders.) it a few times,
but that does not do anything.

Help!!

I kept looking in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for the message that the
Device Manager was giving: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in
memory. (Code 38)".

Found out that Win XP does not support 2 "scanners" at the same time, even
though the camera is not a scanner, XP sees it as such. I disconnected my
scanner and the camera installed fine.

It is really surprising because I've had the scanner connected before as
well and the camera was working fine. The thing is that I usually unplug it
(it does not have an ON/OFF switch), but for whatever reason I had not
unplugged it in a few days. I guess that coincidentaly, every time that I
downloaded pictures from my camera in the last 2 years I did not have the
scanner plugged in (or ON.)

Attached is the link to the Microsoft solution (I couldn't figure out how to
create a link here.)
