Canon Printer and Scanner Drivers Cause XP to crash

Posted: 01-03-2004, 05:59 PM
Please Help! I have installed all new updated drivers for
both my printer and scanner and USB 2.0 high speed,(Canon
S9000, Canon Canoscan N676U) they cause Windows XP HE
(oem) to crash on startup with a blue error screen. New
installation of XP on New HD. When I unplug the
printer/scanner, windows will start normally and I get
the following:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini010304-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\AM\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdat a.xml
BCCode : a BCP1 : 824626C0 BCP2 : 00000002
BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : 806BD818 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0
Product : 768_1
Can anyone help me resolve this issue? Canon tech support
has tried, Microsoft support has tried. Anyone got any
ideas?

Did you uninstall the old drivers before installing the new ones?

What does the Event Log say about the errors?

csinsmnt.exe is related to CleanSweep. Do you have this program installed?

If so try uinstalling it.

Another of your errors, eventsystemobj.cpp

is referenced at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=winxp

It suggests a repair installation of XP should repair to problem.

I don't think they're all caused by the printer and scanner but a
combination of previous corrupt files.... when was the last time you:

Ran a Chkdsk
Ran a Defrag
Ran a complete antivirus scan with updated signatures
Checked for spyware

Re: Canon Printer and Scanner Drivers Cause XP to crash
Posted: 01-05-2004, 02:51 AM
I recently ran chkdsk...it found 5 orphan files which it
deleted. I recently ran defrag, which was desperately
needed. I have Trend PC-cillin 2003 which I use
continuosly, except turn off to install items. I removed
Norton stuff before....My computer still hangs on startup
if the printer or scanner are plugged in (USB). If I
unplug them before or during boot, the puter starts up
just fine. I ran SFC /scannow to check for protected
files being corrupt or damaged...still the same
problems...only the puter does seem to operate a bit
better after it has booted....as per normal.
I will give the repair installation a try...but should I
have the printer and scanner plugged in while doing the
repair?
This was a new clean installation of Windows XPHE...there
should not have been any corrupt files. It was a fresh
clean installation of all my periferals and programs.
