Default Can't complete Installation - Blue Screen of Death post first boot

I been trying to install several builds of Vista 32Bit (latest one 5536) but
everytime when the computer reboots and the final phase of the install is
running, I get a BSD and there is no way to complete the installation. Since
Windows XP SP2 runs just fine, I suspect Vista got an issue with my specs.
Kind of strange since I have a pretty standard comnfiguration and we are so
close to RC1.
Any ideas?

My specs:
AMD 64 +3200
MSI Neo Platinum 2
nForce 3 ultra
ATI Radeon X1600 Pro
2GB (1X OCZ 1XCorsair)
SATA Drives (WD Raptor 74 & Segate)

Just a quick suggestion, remove all USB peripherals with th exception of USB
keyboard/Mouse (if you have them), i.e, printer, modem, webcam etc, and see
if that works.

Good one John, I had the same issue and was able to install nicely after
removing my USB driven rudder pedals for flight sims

Tried that, all USB devices disconnected, no change, BSD at the same spot.

Same problem here. I've got a Sapphire x1600 and with any build after Beta2
and the first build that had the aero mouse pointer i get BSOD. It'll go back
and say completing install etc but then just bluescreen with atikmdag.sys,
been trying and trying here with no luck

Default RE: Can't complete Installation - Blue Screen of Death post first

I managed to get it to work!
I did 2 things at the same time so I am not 100% sure which one did it:
1. In BIOS - video card settings were on 128MB, my card got 512MB so I
changed it to 512
2. I disabled the AC 97 sound card from BIOS for the duration of the install

BTW - if you have a REALTEK AC 97 sound card - windows vista will try to
update the driver form windows update but fail. just go to the realtek site
and get the latest driver

Ok i'm in 5600!! I rebooted back into Windows XP, went to the Vista's
system32 dir and renamed atikmdag.sys to atikmdag.doc rebooted and that
worked, I installed ati's rc1 drivers but still need to get the ati icon
back, and my sound blaster live card ain't working at all, need to get that
fixed then think i'll be set
