cant detele nonexisting torrent file icon from start menu

Posted: 02-14-2009, 04:24 AM

I need help guys!I have an empty torrent file that shows up on my star
menu when I search it. I try to delete it and Vista doesn't let me.
get this message *"This is no longer located in c:\users\my cp
name\appadta\roaming\utorrent. Verify the item's location and tr
again."* The problem is that the actual file doesn't exist on m
computer any more but it still shows up when I search for it from th
start menu. Vista doesn't let me delete or rename it.

I've tried...
-taking ownership of the fil
-using a unlocker program I downloade
-using a file shedder program I downloade

and none of these worked for me. Does anyone have any other ideas o
solutions to this problem. Its driving me nuts

Assuming you have rebooted, try running Chkdsk /f. If my assumption is wrong
and you haven't rebooted yet, try that first.

Hello Sicmetalhead

Double check in the torrent program to make sure that you have als
stopped and removed the torrent file from there. Hopefully you will b
able to delete it afterwards

Hope this helps

Hi, sicmetalhead.

Ho recently did you delete that file?

Vista's search utility works only in the background and tries to stay out of
our way. So, if we keep our computer busy, it may be several hours - or
even days - before it gets enough free CPU/HD time to update the index.
Until then, it thinks that deleted files are still there and shows them when
we search for that filename. But when we click on the filename, it can't be
found, of course.

Go have a cup of coffee or lunch - or even let the computer run overnight -
and then try again to see if that "phantom" file has vanished.

If the only place this entry shows up is in your Start Menu, you can ignore
it or make yourself a new user profile. Without seeing the machine, I can't
guess what's really going on and since you say you've tried everything that
I, Brink, and R. C. suggested with no success I'm out of ideas.

Sorry that I was unable to help you.

I am having the same problem!
I just filled up a 500gb external hard drive w/ music and tv shows and am
dumping a ton of the files into a new one.
My problem is the same as yours, when I try to delete this one album, I get
the message:
"...refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive
on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is
properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network,
and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might
have been moved to a deifferent location."

terrfifc, but that doesn't help me find out how to erase the folder now that
I know that the file is no longer on the drive.

Anywho, we can't be the only people w/ this problem.

Hope springs eternal in the human breast.

Misery loves company.

Pick one.
