| I am running VISTA Ultimate. After my computer is restarted the INTERNET can't be found until I restart my LINKSYS router. I never have to restart the router when my XP computers are restarted. I am connected to the router by network cable rather than wireless. Of course when I restart my router then the VISTA computer eventually finds the INTERNET. I would rather not restart my router every time the VISTA computer is rebooted. Any suggestions of how I can fix this, rather than recycling the power on my router every time VISTA reboots? thanks -- Mark | Guest

| http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/932134 1. unbind IPv6 http://digitalmediaphile.wordpress.c...windows-vista/ 2. get the latest firmware for you router. You didn't post the model, hardware revision or firmware revision. 3. get the latest driver for your network card. 4. post the text output of ipconfig /all http://digitalmediaphile.wordpress.c...t-text-output/ On Sun, 6 Jan 2008 08:47:05 -0800, Mark <Mark@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: Quote:

| Hi Barb, I have a LINKSYS WRTP54G firmware 5.01.04. It is connected to a Surfboard Cable Modem SB4100, which is even older. I will see what LINKSYS and Surfboard have for updates. Unchecking the IPv6 didn't work, I still needed to reset the router. I kind of figured I should hold off on VISTA for a bit longer. Thanks for your help and i will keep your web page bookmarked. Very nice technical content. -- Mark "Barb Bowman" wrote: Quote:

| you can't update the cable modem firmware (your ISP has to do that) but in any case, it wouldn't make a difference as the issue is between your router and the computer. the router you have isn't listed on the official Vista compatibility list http://winqual.microsoft.com/HCL/Pro...=v&cid=712&g=d which may mean that unless Linksys has a firmware upgrade, you are going to have to suffer through the "reset the router" pain unless you replace it. | You might try: ipconfig /release *wait* ipconfig /renew all That has worked for me in an instance where my ISP is wireless, and I don't have connectivity to the Internet until I log in via a secure web page. No DNS until logged in - the system barfs unless I release/renew. You will have to right-click the Command Prompt shortcut and set it to run with Adminstrator privileges or you'll get the "you need elevated" whining. | in Mark's case, this probably won't work given the symptoms he described. he has XP computers that don't trigger this condition and the issue is documented by Microsoft. On Sun, 6 Jan 2008 15:31:07 -0700, "V Green" <vanceg@nowhere.net> wrote: Quote:
