Did you try formatting it again just to make sure?

Every time I run the installer I keep getting an error saying that it can not
determine if my machine is capable of running windows.
I had beta 2 on my system and formatted the drive before trying to install
RC1.

Do you have any USB hardware connected - i.e, printer, modem, webcam? If so
try disconnecting these periperals and try installing again.

I have the same problem, yet I have no USB or IEEE1394 devices attached.
I haven't had this much trouble installing Windows since 95.

Same problem here. I created the iso DVD, formatted C for clean install,
booted from the DVD, and installed the OS. Then as it reboots as part of the
install process, the whole system hangs at the black screen with the "(C)
2006 Microsoft Corporation" After several tries, I left it running for 4
hours today. Nothing more ever happened.

I have no USB devices attached except for my Microsoft mouse and keyboard.
My system is a Dell XPS bought in March 2006. I passed the Vista
certification test with flying colors.

I can't imagine what my problem might be. My components couldn't be more
common...

Try using a serial mouse and keyboard. I had forgotten that my mouse was
USB, so I connected my old serial mouse and boom baby, no problems!
