Can't install Vista public beta 2

Posted: 06-22-2006, 05:04 AM
I ran the install on my second partition on Windows XP x64. After the
reboot, I got a BSOD saying STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFF98000606980,
0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) Luckily I can
press F8 and get back to my old OS. Any idea what this error means and how I
can get around it?

Try to get the boot logging enabled from the boot menu. This should generate
a log file in the root of the boot partition. Include the file in your
Microsoft Beta Client bug report.

--
*It might be helpful to report full hardware config to MS and also here (if
you want). Reporting here can be done easiest by getting this program "PCI"
or "PCI32":

http://members.datafast.net.au/~dft0802/downloads.htm

You also need to copy this file:

http://members.datafast.net.au/~dft0...ds/pcidevs.txt

To the same location as you have the PCI.exe or PCI32.exe. It has updated
device definitions.

If you still have installer or can install XP on the computer, run the
PCI32.exe like this:
PCI32.exe > devices.txt

now open devices.txt with notepad and copy paste the content here in your
reply.

If you don't have and can't get XP back there, get the DOS version on a disk
or bootable USB stick that uses DOS. Then do PCI.EXE > devices.txt and open
this file where you have Internet access.

You can also try enabling boot logging from the boot menu advanced options
and this should make a .log file in root of that drive.

If possible, I also recommend installing the Beta Client on that computer
and submitting a bug including the boot log if you got such made.

Install Fix is totally WRONG and OFF BASE!! And
has no idea how to "Burn Image to Disc" with an
..ISO! YOU DO NOTHING TO AN .ISO FILE EXCEPT TO
'BURN IMAGE TO FILE!' No STUPID DECRYPTER!!!!

The 0x0000007B error code is caused by an
"INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE" and is explained in
several document on the Microsoft web site. All
you have to do is go to www.microsoft.com and
enter 0x0000007B in the search box to get the
RIGHT solution.

Agreed that the fix doesn't seem the right one in this case.

However Dvd Decrypter is the most reliable image burning software I've
used - not a single coaster!. However one should get the ImgBurn as of
today; it's by the same author and doesn't posses the questionable legal
status that the decrypter has.
