Can't play .wav files : unrecognized compression format

Posted: 07-12-2003, 11:38 AM
Hello,

I have a mother board with an integrated chip sound but it
is not capable of hardware compression. I decided to add a
Soundblaster PCI 64V I already used in the past on another
computer (I'm 100% sure it works) and disabled the on-chip
sound feature of my motherboard.
Windows XP Pro could recognized it successfully but I
can't play any sound. If I go Control Panel > Sound and
Audio device, sound TAB, click a sound and play, I
received this error :
"Windows cannot play the %SystemRoot%\media\Windows XP
Ding.wav file. The file may be damaged or may use an
unrecognized compression format. To resolve this problem,
replace the file or use Add/Remove Programs in Control
Panel to install Audio Compression"
I already installed the latest drivers from the
manufacturer, install a MPEG-3 CODEC, searched the
internet during hours, but no solution until now...
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Eric.
