Can't receive fax

Posted: 11-03-2003, 12:43 PM
When an incoming fax is being received, the process lasts
exactly 15 seconds and the whole PC system freezes,
causing me to shut down and restart, not by using
Ctl+Alt+Delete, but by having to shut the power off and
starting again. Sending faxes is all OK

No clues unless you provide more details on the modem, event logs and lastly
T30 Logs.

For now i can only suggest windows update.

Bought a fax modem b/c I am too cheap and don't want a
fax machine. Using fax console, I can send but I can't
receive. I am using my primary phone line since I don't
fax a whole lot. Getting an error when I try and
receive. Any ideas?

Thanks...

Being cheap can sometimes end up costing you more. Did you make sure
that the modem you bought is XP-compatible? See
http://www.microsoft.com/hcl
Take a look at this MS KB article: http://tinyurl.com/ot5c for
troubleshooting advice.

From what I've seen lurking in this ng, WindowsXP fax is very particular
about which fax modems it is willing to work with, and is generally not
terribly reliable.

If you post back, include the make/model of your fax modem and the exact
error message you get.

When you install fax, receiving is disabled by default. You can enable
receiving using the Fax Configuration Wizard.

Can't Receive FAX
Posted: 01-26-2004, 10:41 PM
I can send a fax but I can't receive any. The fax monitor says that its transmitting, but then I get a message that says "an error occured while receiving the fax". My Win XP fax configuration is as follows:
Configuration Summary:

Devices configured to send faxes:
SENS LT56ADW Modem
The TSID of these devices is 7275844183.

Devices configured to receive faxes:
SENS LT56ADW Modem
Devices are configured to automatically answer incoming fax calls after 2 rings.
The CSID of these devices is 7275844183.

Received faxes will be:
Printed on hp psc 1200 series.

Unfortunately, Windows XP Fax has proven to be incompatible with many common
modems and drivers, particularly older ones, even if the manufacturers claim
they are "compatible" with Windows XP. Modem incompatibility is not apparent
during installation or the initial setup. It only becomes apparent when you
first try to send or receive a fax. The Fax Service will dial or will answer
an incoming fax but then fail with any of a number of unhelpful error
messages such as "Line is busy," "There is no answer," or "Reception error."
There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where the problem
might lie.

These errors have been nearly impossible to track down. To do so requires
enabling both PSS and debug logging of fax transmissions, both of which
require fairly extensive registry changes. For the time being, the best
advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed
on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and using the latest drivers.

can't receive fax

Previously, I'm using fax console to send and receive fax and it worked fine.
But just recently, I only can send the fax but can't fax from outside. I had
no idea with what I had done recently. Could somebody help to how to resolve
it? Would it possible due to firewall setting? The fax monitor list show
ringing but an error occurred while receiving. But I have totally no idea
what's the error it mean...pls help!

This happened to me.
This might be something obvious you've already tried but it's worth saying
it anyway.
If you open the fax console go to 'tools' then 'configure fax' you will get
the wizard. Click 'next' until you come to the 'Select fax for sending or
Receiving faxes' page and make sure both the 'send' and 'receive' boxes are
checked.
When this happened to me the 'receive' box wasn't checked, but I hadn't
unchecked it.

Best of luck,
