Can't scan with HP d145 all-in-one printer

I receive error messsage "sorry, scanner could not be
initialized. Scanner not found".

Operating system windows XP Ver 5.1 Service pack 1
HP

USB connection

Print to port DOT Generic IEEE 1284

Using HP latest d145 driver

virus scan negative.

Need help!
