Caps Lock & Scroll Lock lights BLINK

Posted: 07-09-2003, 12:50 PM
I'm running Sony Vaio RX730 (1.7ghz celron 768mb ram 40gb hd)

Question;

System keeps locking up anywhere from 10min-2hrs, not completly sure why.
it happens randomly, not in any certain app. or anything, just randomly
did a fresh install yesterday, still the problem persists.

PROBLEM

cursor freezes, keyboard don't work. The caps lock and scroll
lock light blink. only option is to power-down.

only solution I've found so far.

if I replace the cdrom mount commands in the fstab from:

udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

TO

user,ro,mode=444,noauto 0 0

That seems to solve my problem but causes another, I cannot mount any cd
inserted. Also I get the error of the command not found during startup.

ANYONE KNOW WHAT IS THE TRUE PROBLEM and/or HOW TO SOLVE IT.

Are you using a KVM switch?

my cdrom is:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,owner,ro 0 0

and I have no problems with [un]mounting cd's.

I vaguely remember someone saying somewhere that something like if the
Kernel panics in graphical mode you can't see the panic on the screen and so
as an aid it sends out [morse code(?)] flashes on the caps/scroll lock lights.

Can you check your system logs after the crash and restart
(/var/log/messages would be a good place to start).
