Capture from Firewire Problem

Posted: 10-05-2004, 02:57 PM
Hello there,

I got several problems while trying to capture from my
handycam using Firewire connection. I have Sony DCR
PC105e and using onboard firewire from Asus P4P800
Deluxe. I used to capture my movies using Adobe Premiere
Pro and Movie Maker while using Win XP SP 1. But when I
upgraded my windows into SP2, something happened. I can
control my handycam (rewinding, stop, play just fine) but
nothing displayed on the preview screen. When I tried to
capture , Adobe Premiere reported that nothing was
captured and it stopped prematurely, and said "Connection
to device was lost" (Although it's still connected and
still recognized). I tried to capture using Movie Maker,
and the problem is still the same. Nothing comes up on
the preview screen and stopped at 5 kb while capturing
(DV Camera still playing). Please kindly help. Thank you
very much

Check in the security console that the firewall port is not blocked by the
now active windows firewall.

Hi there. I've checked all firewall setting and even
turning it off, but the problem still exist. It's not
like I am unable to control the DV cam, but I just can't
preview it (in Movie Maker, Adobe Premiere, Ulead Video
Studio).

Does this has anything to do with S100 and S400 firewire
speed that's widely reported on Windows XP SP 2 stuff? If
yes, how can I possibly fix it? All the sources I found
recommeded me on buying a new firewire card, and I don't
really want to do this, because everything works just
fine before I upgraded my machine to XP SP 2.

Thank you very much

Regards

Worth trying:

1. Update video card drivers
2. Reinstall DirectX runtime
3. Install Windows media encoder.

Hello,

The Asus P4P800 is a computer motherboard and not a firewire see..

I have not bothered to read the data sheet. If your motherboard has a built in
firewire then thats your problem...it uses an Intel chipset that has been
reported before as being a problem...to get around that simply disable the
onboard firewire and purchase a new card and plug into an available PCI slot.

Hope this helps

Hello there,

I haven't heard any news and my search doesn't come up
with anything about the problem about Intel's firewire
chipset problem. Can you give me a link about those
reported problems?

Well, you see, I didn't experience any problem while
using Windows XP SP 1. It only occured when I installed
Windows XP SP 2. Thank you very much.

And.. Yes, I use onboard firewire port, because firewire
card in my country costs quite a lot.

Thank you very much
