Resize each window either horizontally or vertically such that each occupies
half of the screen

Right-click Taskbar, Tile Windows Horizontall/Vertically.

To tile only two windows, select a window (in the taskbar), press Control key and selft the 2nd window and right-click. Select "Tile Horizontally"
