cd-rom & dvd drive problems

out of the blue my cd and dvd drives have suddenly started
playing up.Neither of them will autoplay,but even worse
they are unable to read any disk i put in.It comes up with
the message"windows is unable to read the disc.it may be
that the data is corrupted"
please help
