Default CD-ROM error when a game is installed

Hi--

I have XP pro running on my machine (Celeron 550, 30 gig
hard disk memory, 192 MB RAM) and recently tried
installing two different games (one of them is the Age of
EmpiresII) on my computer. Each time I try, the
installing process goes fine (I mean, no errors or
anything popped out). But whenever I click on the icon to
start the game, it tells me to install the appropriate CD
and click and refuses to budge any further. Numerous
times I tried to take out my CD first and put it back
again, but nothing happens! My CD-ROM continues to play
music and display files fine, though.. As I don't know
much about computers, I am really stuck at this point.
Anyone out there knows what to do? I would be immensely
grateful for any help that's offered. Thank you!

Hey
When you are trying to start the game are you logged on with a limited or an
administrator level user? Some programs including age of empires 2 have
problems running on limited accounts.

There are some workarounds for limited users if that is what you are doing?

Have you installed Microsoft's safedisc patch?

Mark,

Thank you so much for responding to my plight. I did
check my status again after your message on my computer,
and found out that I'm the administrator indeed (I was
not sure since just got the XP reinstalled by a tech
after my computer crashed down recently). But I still
tried running the game as a different person, which did
not work. I also downloaded the patch that you've
given me, but that did not work either. ( So far none
of them seems to have worked, which is quite
disheartening. Do you think there's anything else that I
can do?

Thank you!
