CD-ROM not found after downloading iTunes

I recently purchased a new PC with the Vista Home Premium OS. On downloading
iTunes 7.5 my CD-ROM was no longer functional. After deleting iTunes and
restoring the CD-ROM, I attempted to download iTunes again. Same result.
Does anyone know what is going on and how can it be fixed?
