CD's wont play!

Posted: 11-14-2005, 08:56 PM
I stick a CD into the drive, and it wont play!
I browse to the CD, and click on a file (i.e. track01.cda) and it wont play!
I try to open a file off the CD from a player, and it wont play!

Anybody have experience with this?

Mike

Open WMP>Tools>Options>File Types tab
Check "Music CD playback">click Apply and OK.
If this action did not solve your problem. Go to your CD-Rom
Properties and check the AutoPlay.

I've done all that with no result. Auto-play is not the issue. Software CD's
will auto-start. For some reason, my players cannot recognize an audio cd,
as an audio cd. So they don't bother starting it up.

I really do appreciate the time you have spent on my problem, I really do.
However none of those links address my problem. I will try to explain
differently:

1. Computer will not play or recognize AUDIO cd's.
2. My computer plays the music already on my computer.
3. My computer makes plenty of sounds as noises just like it should.
4. It autostarts any software cd.
5. It will autostart the presentation portion of music cd's.
6. It will NOT play the music from music cd's.
7. I believe it has a problem with the .cda file extension.

WMP will play cda files if you have it checked in the File Types where
I gave you the link to making WMP your default player. Check the CD
itself in your CD-Rom properties and check if it is a data disk or music
disk. Also, what program did you use to burn the CD? If Roxio or Nero
you can convert easily to MP3 or the below program:
mp3 converter,convert cda wav wma mp1 mp2 to mp3

It was already checked (.cda) in file types and music cd was already
selected as well. All of the cd's are store bought, record company produced,
original cds. Audiokit doesn't recognize the cda files either.

Actually, that checkbox in File Types doesn't affect the *ability* of WMP to
play back anything at all - it just controls whether that file type launches
with WMP or not.

Since CDAs aren't recognized at all, it would appear that your CD-ROM drive
/ drivers aren't fully functional. The reinstallation of the CD drivers
would probably be the first step to try...
