Default CF and NTFS problems

Hello again all,

I am currently building an image for a Commell LV673 motherboard and am
having some problems with the CF.

I finally have a fully working, bootable image on the CF with all the
drivers included and need to create a sdi file for remote deployment.

The problem is the formatting of the CF. I have been using the
irritating method of win98 disc - create dos partition - boot from
winxp disc and format NTFS.

This will obviously not work for the small partition as it thinks you
are installing xp and says there isnt enough space. I need to create a
650mb partiton on the 2gb flash card and on the other a 400mb
partition.

Is there another way of formatting NTFS on CF? Please Please Please
help!!

Lucy.

I know three of them:

1) Format in FAT/FAT32 then use the XP 'convert' utility;
2) Use Windows 2000 (it still formats removable drives in NTFS);
3) Use Partition Magic or some similar disk editing tool.

You also need to activate the partition if it isn't already active. To do
that I use the same program I use to backup/restore the images, it's very
handy:

Lucy,

Instead of booting in XP install disk you can boot into WinPE disk (CD1 from XPe ToolKit) and have the disk (card) formatted from
there using diskpart/format tools. Then you won't have a limitation there with he formatted media size.
This is assuming your card is marked as fixed.
