Changing the way users log on and off

Posted: 07-12-2006, 01:16 AM
In Windows XP there were two options for the way users logged on and off. One
was the welcome screen and the other was the password box/form. When I
install Vista, the default is the welcome screen. How do I change it to the
log in box?

Thanks.

At least in beta 2, Windows Vista does not make changing this setting easy.

Here's one way to do it:

- Click Start
- Type: control userpasswords2
- Press enter
- If asked for permission, click Continue
- Click the Advanced tab
- Check Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete

That doesn't help anymore! You still have to click your name and enter the
password (Welcome-screen).

Has anyone yet found an answer to this? I too would like to be able to
disable showing valid usernames in the welcome screen (and instead show only
a username/password prompt).

We're running Vista Business Ed. in an 2003 AD environment. Thanks much.

OK, found the answer:

Search the newsgroup for "Subject: Re: CTRL-ALT-DEL Login in Vista?"

Short answer: Look in Local Security Policy (Local Policies -> Security
Options) for Interactive Logon. One of these lines has "Do not display last
username". There're also other useful options here regarding logon screens.
