'Class not registered' error

Posted: 09-28-2004, 11:43 AM
Since installing SP2 I cannot capture from video

when trying to 'capture from video' (Sony digital webcam)
'Class not registered' message occurrs when attempting 'capture part of tape
manually'
'An unknown error has occurred' message appears when attempting 'capture
entire tape automatically'.

I Cannot obtain a bucket number as prompt for sending data to MS does not
appear.

The problem disappears if I return to pre SP2 installation.

Has anyone got any ideas.

This is strange that it is happening related to to SP2. Generally it happens
if for some reason the relevant DLLs get hijacked by some other tool. Some
rogue utilities change the registration of some system DLLs to their own
versions. This results in all other applications forced to use their version
as well. This sometimes works ok for a while. However if the application is
uninstalled the proper DLLs remain unregistered and subsequent use gets
broken.

Anyway if the above description is the cause of your problem you should be
able to fix the issue by reinstalling DirectX and Windows Media Encoder.

And/or re-registering the DLLs manually by executing following on command
line or Start->Run dialog:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\qdv.dll

The above DLL is used for DV AVI capture. For wmv capture problems you need
to register wmvcore.dll

Hope it helps.
