"clean" installation

Posted: 07-14-2003, 05:49 AM
I have forgotten my password to the only account on
Microsoft XP...what I need to know is how to perform
a "clean" installation and will I be able to register
Windows without having to buy the product again?

Boot from the windows XP cd and follow the prompts and if you have
registered already you do not need to again. Activation yes but that is easy

question: didn't you make a password recovery disk set?

See here for a walkthrough of a clean install
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...p_sg_clean.asp

If the hardware you are installing on is identical, you should not have any
problems with activation. Worse comes to worse, you can activate by phone.

On Sun, 13 Jul 2003 21:49:27 -0700, Lisa pondered exceedingly, then took quill
in hand and carefully composed...

| I have forgotten my password to the only account on
| Microsoft XP...what I need to know is how to perform
| a "clean" installation and will I be able to register
| Windows without having to buy the product again?

Was it your personal account whose password you don't remember or THE
Administrator account? If the former, there is a way out of this unless you
assigned a password to Administrator that you can't remember. If you can sign
into Safe Mode as Administrator, you can kill the problem account and create a
new one — with no password or a password you can remember.
