Hello

Best way to do it to
1. Backup all important data that you need
2. Then just reformat the drive
3. Then you will have a clena start
4. Mean's that you would also have to relaod your OS
5. If that is somethign that you want to do.

Or you can go inot the Control Panel, then go to
ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and remove programs that
you don't need.

If you merely intend to reinstall XP, then just boot from the
XP CD and follow directions. That will destroy (access to)
data, so backup what you want to save first. And you will
need to reinstall all apps.

If you want to donate your HD to somebody and want to ensure
that the recipient cannot read your data, then you should
wipe the HD first. Every HD vendor has a utility that will
simply write zeroes all over the HD; to be more secure, you
might want to search the web for Eraser or an equivalent app.

I have nortons Ghost program. You can boot it from the cd
drive ( change the bios to boot from the cd drive). It has
a utility in the support directory called gdisk. It has a
diskwipe command, that will erase everything on the drive.
You can type: gdisk /diskwipe ? for the format of the
command. This wipes everything including the OS, data and
the master boot record. Reformatting the drive dosen't
wipe any data, just cuts the link to where the data is
from the file allocation table.

Norton utililities will boot from the cd drive, but you
will use conventional dos commands to reformat the drive.
I am not sure if it has a wipe command like ghost.
Hope this helps,
Ken
