Code 39 when installing floppy drive driver

Is this a windowsXP problem or driver problem. I have
been working with dell for 11 day trying to resolve this
problem. The floppy drive worked perfect for 3 month and
then it just disappeared to my system. The floppy drive
has been replace by dell tech and he really didn't know
what else to do other than what i have tried for 11 days.
The total message when using hardware install wizzard
is "Windows can not install hardware. Corrupt or missing
driver. (Code 39)" The driver is there and windows will
not overwrite it with driver on drivers CD, says they are
same. I'll try anything before rebuilding hard drive.
Have use what i believe are all options through F2, F8,
and F12 boot option menus. Is there a way to reinstall
windowsXP without doing a complete rebuild of system. Any
and all help greatly appreciated.
