color schemes

Posted: 08-03-2003, 09:02 AM
how and where can I get more colors for the systems colors
schemes. I am getting tired of the few XP has available.
Win 98/95 had quite a variation, but not XP. I have been
looking all over the web for additions to color schemes
and havn't had any luck. Any ideas? There used to be
some good color selections to change the window to but
that has vanished.

Hi Ken,

To do the job for free:

Try this:

Go here and install the Patch. Than download some themes. That will change
the start button and a lot more.

http://www.lightstar1.com/install.htm

Than go here for even more themes.

http://www.themexp.org/

Have fun
Richard

Is there anyway to change the color scheme from either blue, green, or silver in the display menu? I have tried advance but it never saves the active window or the none-active window and thoes are the things I want to change. Can you download new ones or can you make the advance menu work?

See http://www.windowblinds.com
Get themes for windowblinds here: http://www.wincustomize.com

or,
See http://www.tgtsoft.com
Get themes for StyleXP here: http://www.themexp.org

Between the two, I prefer WindowBlinds the best.

The only color schemes available are the ones that ship with Windows. You
can change entire themes, either with Microsoft Plus! or with WindowsBlinds,
which is currently the only third-party theme application approved for use
with Windows XP.

Not really, no. The thing about that is that those are not really color
schemes like Windows had historically had. The color schemes you are used
to only apply to certain parts of Windows. The color scheme you are now
talking about are in fact themes (skins). The colors on the skins cannot be
changed because they are actually colors on bitmaps contained in the skin.
Microsoft provides the 3 schemes by taking 3 copies of the Windows XP Style
theme and painting one blue, one green, and the other silver then including
the three themes.

The "color scheme" of the theme area is kind of a misnomer. Although MS
seems to have initially intended that part to be various colors of the same
theme (as do many other companies), many companies use it to include
different "sub-themes". Others use it to package multiple, different themes
into one package.

You can take a look at TGTSoft and StarDock. TGTSoft has StyleXP which
is pretty good. StarDock has WindowBlinds which is also pretty good.
Unfortunately, both have to be purchased.

As an alternative, you can find many themes and stuff on the Internet
for free. You will probably have to get a hacked version of uxtheme.dll so
that you can use non-Microsoft themes but that's not difficult.
