Com 1 device driver conflict

I have an IBMA T23 and cannot put laptop in stand by
mode. Error message says device driver for COM 1 is
preventing computer from going into strandby mode...close
all apps and try again. I have a PALM and have closed the
hot sync app and still cannot go into standby mode.
Any advice would be great appreciated.
