Comp. Browser service probs

Posted: 09-09-2003, 11:27 PM
I'm trying to network 2 XP Pro machines (1 desktop, 1
laptop) through a router. Both can access the internet
through the network just fine, but the desktop can't even
see its own shared folders let alone the laptop (. I
have all Win firewalls turned off, uninstalled ZoneAlarm,
and can ping the laptop (name and IP) from the desktop.
The laptop can ping the desktop by IP, but not name.
I've read as much as I can here and on the Net. I think
I've found either the problem or a symptom of it: the
Computer Browser service won't start on the desktop. It's
set to automatic, but won't start. When I try a manual
start, I get an Error 1068. Any ideas on what is causing
this or possible solutions? Thanks!

Paul

The workstation service was disabled. I activated both
services and can now access the home network and laptop.
Thanks for your help!
