CompactFlast card reader

The CD for installing a Sakar CompactFlash card reader
was not being read by the Toshiba Satellite 4005CDS (with
WinXP-Pro) resulting in the computer recognizing the
device as "unknown USB device" - when I plugged it into
my newer Satellite (WinXP Home), there was no problem
reading the CompactFlash card from the device. Sakar
suggested updating the drivers from the Windows site, but
that did not help. The device still shows up as "unknown"
and does not appear on the My Computer screen. What's
next?
