Compile Error in Hidden Module

Posted: 06-14-2004, 08:58 AM
Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone had encountered this error message "compile
error in hidden module" whenever they run either Word or Excel in
Office V.x? I have checked the Microsoft knowledge base but their fix
is for PC version and it has to do with Adobe Acrobat.

This problem of mine surfaced after I installed Adobe Creative Suite.

Hope someone could help me out..

Michael

Hi Michael,

Go to Tools> Templates and Add-ins. Do you see any Adobe Add-ins there? If
so, disable them and see if that fixes the problem.

Hope this helps.

Beth:

I think you are on the right track. I think it's an Adobe add-in (probably,
the very horrid PDFMaker...) that is using badly-written code that won't
compile on the Mac.

It can also be a Macro Virus that has come in from a document that has been
on a PC.

However, to disable an Add-In you need to go a step further: Having
disabled it in the Tools>Templates and Add-Ins dialog, you then need to Quit
Word and remove the offending Add-In from the Word Startup folder.
Otherwise it will simply reload itself each time Word starts.

{Sigh} I see that in Word 2004 we have inherited the new Security
"enhancement" that causes Preferences>File Locations to refuse to tell you
where the Startup folder is, unless you have changed it. That's an absolute
pain, because it's a bugger to find it.

If you have not moved it, a quick way to find it is to Ctrl + Click the Word
icon in the Dock and choose Show In Finder. That takes you to the Word
application, which should be in the same folder as the Office Folder. The
Startup Folder should be in that, and within it there should be a Word
folder. Drag the rubbish out of there to your desktop and see if that
improves things. This prevents the thing re-loading on Word startup.

Cheers
