Computer won't boot

A couple of days ago my mouse icon started freezing after
the computer was on but not used overnight. The first
couple of times I just turned the computer off and back on
and everything was fine. Yesterday, when I tried to turn
the computer back on I got a brief screen that said
something like "save power mode" before the computer shut
back down. I have XP Home Edition and tried booting from
the reinstallation disk with no luck. Can anyone help??
