conflict between modem and soundcard

Posted: 11-18-2005, 09:35 PM
I recently had to reinstall Windows XP. Once I did this, I had to download
Media Player 10 to update it, but I found that there is no sound. When I
reinstalled the soundcard from the Dell disk, it knocked out my modem
(assigned it to the same port that my modem used.)

So, used another Dell disk with "modem helper" to fix that, and all it did
was put the modem into the sound port, and now I have no sound again.

Any suggestions on how to fix this so I can hear sound AND be on the
internet??

Thanks

Actually modem and sound card may share the hardware and thus the ports etc.
Both have all but been reduced to a two-way analog-digital converter.

Unfortunately I have only one suggestion, and I even doubt it:
if you have the choice, try using another protocol for the sound card. ASIO
seems to have the lowest latency, but is rather single-minded. I recently
experienced improvements when I chose MME instead of WDM. (But that was
within audio matters, on a notebook.)
